Reaching New York City from Niagara Falls

New York City is not a day trip from Niagara Falls, no matter how the itinerary is drawn up. By road it is roughly 640 kilometres and about 7 h 30 from the American side, before traffic around the city adds more.

There is no fast direct link: Amtrak's Maple Leaf connects Toronto to New York and stops on both sides of the border, but the full run takes around 9 to 10 hours and includes an onboard border inspection, not a quick transfer.

Flying is faster in practice, with Buffalo (BUF) the more affordable departure point than Toronto Pearson for a New York fare. Treat this as a second trip that happens to start near the falls, not an add-on to a Niagara weekend.
