Things to do in Niagara Falls, New York
Niagara Falls, New York, is a small city of roughly 48,000 people built around the Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the United States and, unlike the Canadian side, free to enter. Old Falls Street runs from downtown hotels straight into the park gates, so most visitors can walk to the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls without a car.
Buffalo, with the region's main airport (BUF), is 34 kilometres away, about 30 minutes by car.
The Rainbow Bridge crosses to Ontario in a few minutes on foot, but a passport is required in both directions, and some park attractions, including the Maid of the Mist boat and the summer configuration of Cave of the Winds, close for winter, typically from November into April.
