Things to do in Port Dalhousie
Port Dalhousie is the lakefront neighbourhood of St. Catharines, about 20 kilometres from the falls and roughly a 25-minute drive from Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country. The draw is simple: a sandy Lake Ontario beach, a small marina, and a wooden carousel built in 1905 that still runs rides for a couple of dollars a token.
It works best as a late-afternoon stop after a day of tastings, not a full day on its own. The old canal's northern terminus sits nearby, but this is a separate stop from downtown St. Catharines and the Welland Canal viewing points.
Most beach-side operations run from May through September; outside that window, the waterfront is quiet and several concessions are shuttered.
