Things to do at the Niagara Parks Power Station

The Niagara Parks Power Station is the retired Rankine plant, which generated electricity from 1905 until it was decommissioned in 2006; Niagara Parks reopened it to visitors in 2021. The main draw is the Tunnel, opened in July 2022: an elevator drops 55 metres, then a passage runs 671 metres to a platform at the edge of the river, roughly level with the water.

In the evening the turbine hall hosts Currents, a sound-and-light show projected inside the old generating floor. This is a heritage site, not a working plant, so it has nothing to do with the stations still drawing water from the falls' treaty-controlled flow upstream.

Visits run seasonally, and the Tunnel walk takes about 45 minutes to an hour at an unhurried pace.
